Today is fresh challenge over at the 365 Cards blog. The prompt is Tuck it in Your Pocket: Make a pocket for the inside of your card and add a little decoration to it.

Here is my example:

I used the Birds of a Feather stamp set from Market Street Stamps and the new Secret Crush Collection from Pink Paislee.

Here is the inside of the card:

For this I used more of the Secret Crush Collection and the Love Birds stamp from Market Street Stamps.

I will get that wonderful stack of Market Street Stamps out to you in the mail Beth!

Andes Candies Meringues

I have so much fun baking each year for Christmas that I thought that I might start sharing some of my family's favorites. Each recipe that I share has obviously originated from somewhere, and I will do my best to inform you of the originals, but some have been found and then tweaked  and I may have lost where the originals have come from.

I am, by no means, an expert in baking or cooking, and therefore please do not scold if I do something you deem as not right or different than what you do, pretty, pretty please.

The first recipe that I wanted to share is one I originally found in a Taste of Home booklet. You can find it here on their website.

I really haven't changed this one too much, as these turn out so wonderfully, but I do change up the steps somewhat.

Here is a picture of them right before they go into the oven:

And here is a picture of them once they are nice and cooled off in their tin.

Ingredients:
2 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tarter
3/4 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 ounces {half package} Andes Creme de Menthe Baking chips

Pre-heat the oven to 250 degrees and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, {I use a Kitchen-aide stand mixer}, beat the egg whites until foamy. I then add the cream of tarter, beating the mixture until soft peaks start to form. Adding one tablespoon at a time, gradually beat in the sugar until you have stiff peaks forming. In all of the literature that I have read about making meringues, they say not to stop the mixer at all. {I will admit here that I break this rule.} Once all of the sugar has been added, I stop the mixer and scrap the sides and then add in the vanilla. I do not wait until the end like they say, as I think, personally, that starts to break down the meringue. I also do not add in the green food drops like they suggest as optional. Once the vanilla is added and the sides are scraped, I whip it until the stiff peaks form. Once you reach stiff peak formation, fold in the mint chips.

Drop a tablespoon full of the mixture onto the parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes. Depending on your oven you may need to bump this up to 35 minutes, but you do not want them to start to brown. Once out of the oven, move the meringues on a wire rack to cool. Store in an airtight container.
Yields: 2 1/2 dozen

A lot of my meringues do come out cracked, but I think that this just adds to their charm.

I hope you enjoy this recipe, and if you do end up making it, please stop by and let me know how they turn out!

Happy Birthday and a Winner! {And a Giveaway!}

Hello on this very chilly Saturday! We have had a whirlwind week here in our household with last minute details for Christmas, cookie and candy making, a blizzard, a surprise birthday party for my brother and an extended family Christmas party. Here are a few pictures from this week, though you may have already seen them if you are a follower on Instagram.

 We ended up with about 10 inches of snow!

The girls had a blast playing outside.

And this is my grumpy ol' gnome of a brother at his party. He can fake grumpy pretty well can't he?

I will share my adventure in baking and making pictures with you tomorrow. It will prove to be a pretty yummy post! ;)

Next, it is a brand new challenge over on the 365 Cards challenge blog today. The prompt is Boy oh Boy: create a birthday card for a teenage boy.

And here is what I came up with:

Now, to the latest winner from the Spirit of Giving giveaway.

Pretty Holidays and a Giveaway

Good morning! I hope you had a wonderful week and are now enjoying a nice relaxing weekend.

Today starts another challenge over at 365 Cards. We have a wonderful sponsor this week,
The prompt for today is Pick-a-Pattern: Toile.

I used the very pretty Prissy Poinsettia digi stamp for my card today. I colored it in with Copics and then went over the whole image with Antique Linen Distress Ink. The toile patterned paper is from an older Christmas collection by Basic Grey.

And now for another Spirit of Giving giveaway, I have got three sets of stamps from Market Street Stamps, which are all now retired; Robo Love, Robo Star and Blast Off.

Here are just a few cards that feature each of the stamps:

Blast Off

Robo Love

Robo Star

Also, there is still time to get in on the last Spirit of Giving post. You have until Monday to get your comments in for a chance to win that set of prizes.

A Giveaway, a Winner, and the Countdown to Christmas!

I hope you all had a wonderful week last week! I know mine went by far too quickly. Between getting ready for Christmas, a little girl who hasn't been at 100% and the normal running, I can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that it is already December!!!

I really do love the feelings I get around Christmas. I guess it ultimately starts just before Halloween and lasts through the beginning of the New Year. Although most of the emotions are happy ones, there is the part that brings a slight melancholy when things are still for just a bit and I am reminded that my dad is no longer with us. Though I miss him mightily, I know he is watching us from above and surrounding us with his love.

I try to be my best that I can be, and I know that I fall short in many areas, but especially during the holidays, I get that extra burst of something. It's not really energy, but I guess you could call it positiveness maybe. I am reminded of all the things I am so very blessed with and want to share that with others. I know these Spirit of Giving giveaways are quite small in comparison to other things, it still brings joy to not only the people who receive them, but myself also.
And I guess that's really the reason why I keep this blog too. Not only do I love to share what I make (though I know there are so many out there that have such an abundance of talent, you included), but if I can spark just the slightest idea, smile or joy in just one person, it is all worth it.

And with all of that being said (and I know it was a whole lot of jibber jabber) I appreciate you all for coming here and even though it's usually the same few people, you still show up even though you don't have to. ;)

So, on to the winner of the first prize for the Spirit of Giving:

Glora

Congratulations Glora!!!

The next giveaway contains a Baby Basics stamp set and Loopy Loo Polkas background from Market Street Stamps and a black Archival Ink Pad.

Make sure to leave a comment below for your chance to win! I will choose a winner for this one on Monday, but be sure to come back later this week. I have it on high authority that there just might be a bonus give away coming up.

I also wanted to quick share a project I made last week and haven't shown yet. I used the Peachy Keen Stamps November Stamp of the Month Kit and Peachy Picks Kit  to make a calender for December. You could also reverse the numbers and use it for a Countdown Calender to Christmas.

I used my colored pencils and Gamsol for most of the coloring. I did use Copics for the skin on the elf, as I do not have skin tones just yet in the pencils. I also used Spicas for the reindeer's nose and bow and the white areas on the elf's person and lolli.

Well, I hope you haven't gotten too bored with post and enjoyed the project. I will be back with another project tomorrow!!

Merry Christmas Card

*** You can find the Spirit of Giving giveaway post here.***

Hello!!
There is a brand new challenge today over on the 365 Cards blog. The prompt is to use scallops and stripes.
We also have a brand new sponsor for this week, Stamp Your Life.

Here is my card using their December Days Digital Stamp in red and green. I decided to print it out on kraft cardstock to change it up form the traditional red, green and white.

I used Authentique patterned paper, American Crafts jute, TPC and Bazzill bling, and even used a Copic Marker to change the color of the green blings.

Hope you have a great day!

Don't forget about my Spirit of Giving giveaways going on right now. You can find that post here!!

Spirit of Giving

So, I meant to have this post up on Saturday, but then I got caught up in some family activities, mainly cleaning and then taking the kids Glow Bowling.

And then I was going to post it yesterday, but we ended up babysitting my nephew all day and did more cleaning, some tree trimming at Grandma and Grandpa's and then a soccer game, and back to more cleaning.

Now, I am getting it up quick before anything else gets in the way!

Let me first start out by saying that I am beyond thankful for everything in my life. I have a beautiful family, awesome friends, a warm house and many other things that make by life a blessing. I take these things for granted on occasion and I often forget that not everyone has it this good.

This will be my third year of doing the Spirit of Giving, and I want to make it the best one yet. {There is a good chance that I will forget to make a post on time, or pick a winner on time, or do anything else on time. It's just the way I roll.}

To start off this week, I will be giving away:
A Market Street Stamps set, Ornaments {Yep, designed by me!!}
A six by six Carta Bella Winter Fun paper pad
A bottle of Picket Fence Distress Stickles
A bottle of Frosted Lace Stickles, and,
A Clear Starduct Gelly Roll pen.

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post letting me know what you are most Thankful for this year.

I will post the winner on Monday, and be on the lookout for more giveaway posts, I haven't quite decided just how many I will do between now and Christmas. Just know that there will be at least one a week!!

Also, don't forget that there are a couple of pretty sweet sales going on right now, but that are ending tonight.

Be Naughty!

Hello out there!! Are you still there?

I know, it's been forever, and I even forgot to post my card last Saturday for 365 Cards! But I have lots of stuff to post about, and I may break it up throughout the day. {You never know, there might be something worth waiting for at the end of the day ;)}

Well, onto today's challenge for 365 Cards. The prompt is Imagine This: Sassy.

So, my mind immediately went to this month's release over at Peachy Keen Stamps. Kathy has a cute little sentiment stamp that I thought would work perfectly!

All of the elements on this card are from either the Peachy Keen Stamp of the Month Club or the Peachy Picks Kit Club {which is unfortunately sold out for this month}.

Also, Peachy Keen is having a HUGE "Gobble it Up" sale going on right now through the end of Monday evening. You can go here and find out all of the great details!! A Very Merry Christmas {Distress Stain Tutorial}

Hello! It's my turn to share a tutorial over on the Market Street Stamps blog today.

I first started with gathering all of the supplies that I was going to need for this project:
Ornaments stamp set
Watercolor paper
Distress Stains {Shabby Shutters, Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, Black Soot}
Broad Nib Water Brush
Fine Detail Nib Water Brush
Archival Ink {Will not bleed when used with water}
Rock Candy Distress Stickles
Ink Palette
Spellbinders Labels 8
Authentique Festive 6x6 paper pad

The first color I used was Shabby Shutters. I used the wider flat water brush and dipped it into the palette where I hold small amounts of my Distress Stains. I filled the body of the long ornament in completely.

I then used the same brush in Crushed Olive and filled in slightly more than half of the ornament.

And then with Peeled Paint, I filled in about one third of the ornament.

Next I used the smaller tipped water brush with Black Soot to fill in the top of the ornament.

After the paper was dry {helped along with the Heat It tool}, I squeezed out a bit of Rock Candy Distress Stickles onto the darker part of the ornament.

And then spread it around with my finger a bit.

Once the Rock Candy was dry, I used a die to cut out the ornament and attached it to my card.

And viola!! A watercolored look to a Christmas card!

Here is a closer look at the Rock Candy.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Under the Christmas Tree

Hello! It's another Saturday Challenge over at 365 Cards. Today's prompt is Setting the Scene.
Create a indoor scene using at least one stamp.

I chose to do an under the tree scene. The bough and present are die cuts from the Silhouette store and the ornament is from my newly released stamp set, Ornaments, from Market Street Stamps.

On the back of the ornament I decided to attach a real ornament hanger.

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend so far. I am frantically trying to catch up on everything after a trip I took to visit with friends this past week.
